The All-New Sporty Compact Rio from Swift Group

With the size of a panel van in the body of a coachbuilt motorhome, the Rio is Swift Group’s all-new compact motorhome range built on a special low line chassis from Fiat with their new Ducato cab and with Swift Group's SMART intelligent construction system.

At 6.4 m overall length and 2.26m width (mirrors folded) with a rear fully opening tailgate the Rio is truly a compact, sporty range and comes in two models, both with a rear parallel lounge that allows easy loading of sporting equipment or anything you may choose to take with you.

The 320 is a two berth model and the 340 is a 4 berth model with a shorter parallel lounge that allows for a travelling dinette. The 340 also features an electronically operated drop down bed at the rear that has three positions and the ultra comfortable Duvalay Duvalite mattress which is exclusive to Swift. The highest position is for storage in the roofline, a mid position where people can sleep underneath, and a low-level position for sleeping that is very easy to access.

The sleek GRP pod features an opening roof window and the rear looks equally stylish with the exclusive Swift LED light clusters. The full GRP tailgate has a steel frame structured rear panel which supports a gas strut assisted elevating rear door. This highly innovative feature is a first for the UK and is ideal for multi-purpose use, whether you enjoy biking, other sporting activities or for luggage storage this allows quick access to the rear of the Rio and straight into the "Great Outdoors".

The rear door has a large window which bathes the Rio in light and also included is a two point central locking system and a practical rear sweep out strip and entrance step. In addition when the rear door is opened lights shine down which is ideal for night time unloading and access.

Darkened Seitz C8 windows like those found on the Bolero, stylish graphics, front marker lights and 16" wheels, front and rear valances and side skirts finish off the sporty look.

Under the Skin is Swift Group’s SMART Construction, which launched to much acclaim in the Group's tourer ranges in October 2013. Standing for a Strong timber-less body frame with Modern desirable looks and a leading Aerodynamic shape that is Resilient to moisture, all wrapped up in a motorhome that has undergone the most comprehensive Testing; it bares the ethos of what Swift wants to achieve for all their products going forward.

SMART is being launched across the entire Coachbuilt Motorhome range for the 2015 season.

The new timberless body frame uses PURe, a strong polyurethane material that is totally impervious to water and has been proven in use. The construction method prevents the transfer of moisture from the outside to the upgraded hardwood ply wallboard making the motorhome highly resilient to moisture. Everything is CNC (computer numerically controlled) cut to provide accuracy and consistency time after time to give a high quality engineered product. Thorough testing provides confidence for customers.

For more details on SMART Construction see the SMART press release.

The new Fiat cab has a more streamlined modern look and comes with a white colour keyed bumper and black accents. The headlights feature LED daytime running lights with a black bezel, the front grill is gloss black and the skid plate is also finished in black.

Inside new 'Captain-chair' style cab seats have an integrated headrest, wider backrest, better side support and improved seat comfort for an overall more comfortable journey.

The radio comes with Bluetooth for hands free phone connection and a mirror mounted aerial for better reception. A handy central holder takes two cups or 0.75litre bottles and has space for a smart phone, iPod or other small objects. There is also a USB port for mobile device charging and connectivity.

The instrument panel has new more modern graphics and a gearshift indicator shows you when to change gear for optimum economy.

Inside the furniture is in contemporary 'Aralie Sen' woodgrain with a complementary 'Loxley' soft furnishing scheme. Base cushions are in a chocolate ribbed fabric with contrasting backrests in a grey weave fabric that has a silver tinge. The iridescent weave is picked up in the fabric wall pads around the windows which has a cornflower blue geometric pattern.

There is an option of 'Impala' stain resistant easy-clean seating fabric with a soft nubuck texture, unique to Swift Group.

Lighting throughout is LED with dimmable under locker spotlights and overlocker lights in the rear lounge and there is a stepwell light for safer access. There are even low-level night-lights that operate when travelling and an illuminated kitchen splash back. Swan neck cab reading lights are also fitted to all models.

Sockets are finished in chrome and kitchens feature a granite effect sink with lit splash back, a chrome effect vector mixer tap, Thetford Aspire Mark II oven (specifically designed for leisure vehicle use), gloss black Dometic 8 series fridge and microwave oven.

A compact washroom houses everything you need, a basin, toilet and shower plus mini LED downlights. Truma Combi 4 heating and a Winter Pack, which includes fresh and waste water tank heaters, drain insulation and fridge vent makes them suitable for all-year round use and they easily achieve Grade 3 performance for thermal insulation

There is a 75 amp/hr leisure battery under the drivers cab seat.

Both models are powered by the Fiat 2.3 litre, 130bhp Euro5+ turbo diesel with a 6-speed gearbox and weigh in at 3.5 Tonne. Fiat’s automatic gearbox is available as an option with the standard 130bhp economical engine, which is a popular choice.

The rear step can be removed and a towbar for a trailer or tow ball mounted cycle rack fitted. Other key options include a reversing camera, full length roll out awning and the specially priced Lux Pack, which adds air conditioning, cruise control and a Status 550 TV aerial

All models come with a "TRACKER Retrieve" Thatcham approved tracking system (category 7) and the reassurance of Swift Group's 10-year body integrity warranty. Many insurers insist on trackers, so it could save customers several hundred pounds for fitting one later.

Nick Page, Swift Group's Commercial Director, commented, "The new Rio by Swift is aimed at those wanting a compact flexible model like a panel van, but with the style and extra features of a coachbuilt motorhome. With the fully opening rear tailgate it offers great versatility."
