Against a background of continuing financial challenge, the Swift Group has bucked the trend by announcing encouraging sales figures of just over £16 million from major shows in Manchester, Glasgow and London.
The new Motorhome, Caravan and Camping Show at Excel last weekend rounded off the Spring Show season and proved to be the largest sales boost with sales of the Groups touring caravans and motorhomes topping £8.7 million.
The Show, which replaced the normal February Caravan Show at the NEC, Birmingham, attracted a good attendance which included many families that were looking at the holiday lifestyle provided by caravans and motorhomes, for the first time.
“With two new venues, one at the Trafford Centre in Manchester and the second at Excel in the Docklands, the Spring round of shows this year have given the industry the challenge of presenting our products to a new audience. We entered 2012 on a cautious basis with retail markets finding the run up to Christmas challenging.
“However it is encouraging to note that by offering products that are competitively priced and are designed to suit families with smaller, less expensive cars we have still managed to generate a high level of overall sales that compare very favourably with the levels achieved last January and February.
“With other big ticket items on the high street showing resilience so far in 2012 we are confident that the successes achieved at these shows will continue. A view echoed by one of our larger dealers in the Midlands also achieving record sales over a 3 day promotion last weekend. We are taking this as a clear indicator that Caravan holidays are still proving to be the most popular way of spending your leisure time,” Nick Page, Commercial Director of the Swift Group commented.
