Swift Group invests £8m in new production facility at Cottingham Headquarters

Cottingham based Swift Group has commenced development of a new £8m purpose built modern manufacturing facility at its headquarters on Dunswell Road.

The new facility will take an estimated 9 months to build and from the summer of 2017 will house production of all the company’s Holiday Homes and Lodges.

The opportunity to build a whole new production facility from scratch is virtually unheard of within the Holiday Home industry and will allow Swift to create a state of the art facility that will set new standards in the manufacture of holiday homes and lodges and secure employment at the site for many years.

Swift Group has engaged two local firms: Alan Wood Partnership and Houlton, to project manage and construct the facility. Alan Wood Partners was established in Hull in the 1960's and the firm has grown substantially to provide a full range of engineering services in all areas of the construction industry. Houlton first worked with Swift in the mid 80’s when they were commissioned to build their first production building at Dunswell Road. A family firm, Houlton has been at the forefront of the local construction industry for over 130 years.

The £8m outlay follows on from other major investments in capital equipment over the past 4 years as Swift Group introduced its SMART innovative construction systems in touring caravans and motorhomes that have revolutionised their manufacture. The most recent development will be commissioned in the coming weeks and fully operational after the summer.

‘This is a most exciting time for Swift Group’ said James Turner ‘we are starting to see significant benefits from our manufacturing investments over the last few years and have high expectations for the opportunities this new facility will provide. It is fantastic news for the local area, especially with two local companies securing the project management and construction work.’

Peter Drenon, a Director at Alan Wood said, “As a market leading provider of professional management and engineering design services we thank Swift for placing their confidence in us to be part of the delivery of this prestigious project. What makes this even better, and us immensely proud, is to be a member of a team comprising of local businesses. This is a demonstrable key to project success.”

‘Houlton was delighted to be chosen to construct this new production facility for Swift Group’ said Paul Dickerson managing director, ‘it will prove a real boost to the local economy and also allow us to continue to provide excellent learning opportunities for our trainees on this exciting project. We are already engaging with our local supply chain who will be working with us on this important new building.’
