The Swift Kon-tiki took the solus position at the top of the Swift Group Motorhome range last year and this year it receives a stunning make over denoted 'Black Edition'. Not only does this bring a striking black metallic cab and special graphics there are also a host of enhancements to make it the ultimate Kon-tiki range, at the best price ever too.
Launched at the recent Oct NEC show, the response was so overwhelming; two new single axle, low- line models have been added to the range - the 625 and 635. These join the three best selling layouts, the 649, 669 and 679, which were taken forward for 2014. The 649 is a standard high-line model and the 669 and 679 have both a high and low-line option.
The Kon-tiki already has an impressive specification including Alde central heating, AL-KO double floor chassis, cab air-conditioning, a comprehensive lighting and power system and a full length awning.
Added to this on the exterior are a BBQ point, shower point and a 120W solar panel giving greater independence and prolonging the life of the twin leisure batteries.
All models continue with a high spec Fiat Ducato cab with factory fitted Burr-Walnut effect dashboard trim, leather steering wheel and gear knob and a fully integrated “infotainment” system with radio/CD/MP3 player, steering wheel controls, Bluetooth mobile phone connectivity and USB iPod/MP3 device connection.
Power is provided by the latest Euro 5+ 150bhp Variable Geometry Turbo engine. This gives an 18% improvement in fuel economy and CO2 emissions and up to a 12% improvement in acceleration compared to the Euro 4 157bhp engine. For even more power and performance on TAG axle models the optional 3.0 litre engine with Variable Geometry Turbo delivers a huge 180bhp. For ease of driving Fiat's Comfort-Matic automatic gearbox can be specified on 180bhp models.
Entry to the accommodation is through the latest high specification door by Seitz, which has secure two-point locking, an integral flyscreen and bin and a stepwell light. Low level ventilation has been moved from the step well to make the interior quieter in transit.
Inside a new bedding scheme features dark chocolate ribbed seating fabric against a pale but warm grey with an undulating design. It is broken up by a soft gold stripe that links into the pale gold ribbed curtain fabric and is picked up by the decorative leaf pattern of the wall pad fabric. There is also a leather/'Impala' option. 'Impala' is stain resistant easy-clean seating fabric with a soft nubuck texture, exclusive to Swift Group.
Also exclusive to Swift Group is the fitting of an ultra lightweight 'Duvalay Duvalite' mattress. Brought to recognition on Dragon's Den and now backed by Hilary Devey, the 'Duvalay Duvalite' is a new innovative mattress made with lightweight memory fibre technology. This hypoallergenic fibre remains as comfortable as memory foam but has many other benefits. Helping eliminate heat retention it gives superior temperature harmony, excellent pressure relief and is durable and resilient. It is resistant to dust-mites and is 100% recyclable. Being ultra light weight it also contributes to significant weight savings.
Travelling comfort is assured with ergonomically shaped rear travelling seats.
Practical removable carpets are sectioned giving the flexibility to leave carpet in lounge areas and remove it from entrance door areas if required exposing the new French oak effect floor vinyl.
The curved upper locker doors are now gloss 'Italian ash' with cappuccino colour infills and chunky chrome handles. New chrome sockets add to the quality feel.
The low energy lighting system is enhanced with dimmable spot lights, LED strip lights on lockers, etched lights in the washroom mirror and lights in the kitchen splash back highlight the new printed design.
Kitchen and washroom taps have a new stylish chrome finished design and a practical addition is the Eco Camel shower head and hose in the washroom which cleverly injects air directly into the water stream so you use less water while experiencing a more powerful shower.
Introduced last year all models come with a “TRACKER Retrieve” Thatcham approved tracking system and the reassurance of Swift Group's 10-year body integrity warranty. Many insurers insist on trackers, so it could save customers several hundred pounds for fitting one later.
“The Kon-tiki is an exclusive range with most models built to order. The new 'Black Edition' range offers the highest level of specification ever offered in a motorhome range from Swift Group, yet at price ticket around the same as last year's model. Sales are already indicating that this exclusive package is very tempting and hard to beat. The interest has been so high that we have just introduced two new single axle models to expand the offering.,” Swift Group Commercial Director Nick Page commented.
