New Swift Escape goes straight to the top of the class

The new Escape, launched by the Swift Group at the February NEC Show, and designed to provide a fresh modern option for people looking for their first new motorhome, has beaten competition from 33 of Europe’s best coachbuilt and van conversion models to win the prestigious Caravan Club Motor Caravan Design and Drive Awards at its first attempt.

With comments like “It sets the benchmark for budget family motor caravanning” and “They have tremendous design appeal both inside and out and retain a quality of build and standard of construction normally linked to more expensive ranges,” the new Escape unanimously won over the panel of expert judges. The winning model from the range was the Escape 686, which has the ideal layout for a family looking for their first new motorhome.

The Swift Group rounded off a record year in the awards by also winning all the honours in the Coachbuilt over £45,000 category with the Swift Kon-Tiki 679 taking first place, the Bessacarr E660 coming second and the Autocruise Oakmont filling third spot.

The Escape 686 won the Coachbuilt up to £36,000 class as well as the overall win. The Swift Mondial RL came third in the Van Conversion over £34,000 class and the Autocruise Sportstar came third in the Coachbuilt between £36,000 and £45,000 class.

Announcing the winners the Club said:”The Swift Group picked the perfect time to launch a coachbuilt budget range, in the shape of the new Escape models. Relatively inexpensive it may be, but the Escape 686 is still a top product, with build quality matching the rest of Swift’s ranges.”

Commenting on the win, Swift Group Commercial Director Nick Page commented:”This is the highest accolade we could have expected for the new Escape Range. All the objectives we set ourselves have been recognised by the judges in the comments they have made in choosing the Escape as the winner. The Award is great recognition for the design and manufacturing teams at Swift who have created this market leading range. Demand at dealers is really taking off and with this independent vote of confidence this is clearly one range that has delivered an overall package to bring a shine to the current economic gloom.”

The new Escape is available in four layouts, including a fixed bed model and is equipped with all the essentials. Available at dealers now, models start at £29,195.*
