Edwards reigns supreme as he retains British Rally Championship

Swift Rally Team’s Matt Edwards was once again crowned the British Rally champion in his M-Sport Ford Fiesta R5, the first back to back champion since Keith Cronin in 2009/2010.

After a pulsating championship, strong performances by Matt in partnership with co-driver Patrick Walsh, at the Cambrain, Ypres and Ulster rallies left Matt only needing to finish in seventh place to take the top spot at the Galloway Hills Rally, Scotland.

There has been an intense battle throughout the season between Edwards and rival Tom Cave, and this finale did not disappoint, with Edwards taking third place – more than enough to add another incredible title to his belt.

Speaking of his amazing win, Edwards said:

“I went into the last stage just wanting it to be over and it was a tough event for us to drive, as we had to make sure we got to that finish line. M-Sport, Patrick [Walsh] and the whole team have made it all perfect for me and to have everything come together again is really sweet. I hope Tom [Cave] takes it as a compliment, but to beat him this year is really special and to enjoy this season long fight was great for the championship and to beat him on pace, I am really chuffed. It’s just unbelievable!”
