Gotta love Land’s End

This west Cornwall region has so much to offer

A HOLIDAY in the most westerly point of England won’t disappoint. The region, from the seaside town of St Ives, west to Land’s End, is incredible.

One of our favourite spots around St Ives is Godrevy Beach, with its views to Godrevy Island and lighthouse. It’s a popular location among wildlife enthusiasts, surfers and walkers alike. The rocks create naturally formed pools on Godrevy Beach – safe places for paddling, swimming, or boating when the tide is out. Seals swim to a secluded beach opposite the island, and you can see them lounging on the sand if you peer down from the clifftops above. Leach Pottery is a charming pottery museum, studio and shop. It was founded in 1920. Today you can watch demonstrations, visit exhibitions or take part in a pottery masterclass. Pottery throwing courses are also available.

Directly south of St Ives, on the county's south coast, is the town of Marazion and dramatic St Michael’s Mount. The Mount is well worth half a day, but you’ll need to check tide times (tidetimes.co.uk) if you want to walk across the causeway. Alternatively, pay for a boat ride. Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens near Penzance displays contemporary art in its extensive gardens. Enjoy seeing modern art set amongst exotic species of plants, and treat yourself with a cuppa in the café. Land’s End itself (TR19 7AA) can be a tourist trap, so time your trip accordingly. Low season will be quietest, and, weather permitting, an evening visit will bag you a stunning sunset over the Atlantic. While in the area, consider visiting the Amanda Richardson Art Gallery (TR19 6HD), Geevor Tin Mine (TR19 7EW) or the Minack Theatre (TR19 6JU).
